The only thing that saved Roman from getting his ass beat was the sad look in Erin’s eyes right before she wrapped her arms around me. I could tell she had been crying. Making sure she was straight was more important than putting Ro through a wall. That, and I had heard how he talked to Ava. My little brother was confused and hurt. We both were.

I never suspected we were brothers. We had the same last name as everybody on our mothers’ side. Yeah, we had a lot of similarities, but Drake favored us too. Did that mean he was our brother as well? Shit, most of my female cousins looked like they could be sisters. Now I was looking at everybody differently.

While Erin sat in the room with Ma Duke, I chilled in the waiting room. When my phone started ringing and I saw it was Don Capporelli calling, I sucked my teeth.

“Don...”

“Santonio. How are you?”

“I’ve been better.”

He chuckled. “I will be expecting you in Portland tomorrow evening.”

I stared at the wall.

“There is matter of...eh...agitazione.”

Turmoil.

“I will see you tomorrow, Santonio.” And with that, he hung up.

Hearing the elevators ding, I glanced up to see Grey exiting. I leaned back in my chair as he approached me.

“Mr. Morris.”

“Grey.” I nodded.

“How is your mother?”

“She’s doing better.”

He stood there for a moment. “Okay, well when she wakes tell her we’ve been praying for a speedy recovery at the church.” Grey fixed the sleeves on his tailored Armani suit.

“‘Preciate that.” I got up, dapped him, and pulled him into a quick embrace. “I’ll let her know.”

“No problem.” He looked down the hall then back at me. “You got anybody guarding her room?”

“Yeah. Ross and Smoke are down there.”

Grey checked the time on his Rolex. “You mind if I have word?”

“About?” I stared at him.

“Protocol and safety. Smoke had a mishap earlier this week. I just wanna rap wit’ em.”

I nodded and retook my seat.

“Shouldn’t take long.” Grey made sure his gun was hidden before taking off.
